Kiln drying is the process of placing wood in a climate-controlled chamber, called a kiln, where the drying process is accelerated. Here, environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and steam levels are precisely controlled until the target moisture content for each slab is reached. Kiln drying significantly increases the stability of the slab, as well as ensures that any pests hidden inside are eradicated. Pests such as termites can survive for months to even years, within a non-kiln-dried slab before making their way out.
